Spain to sell stake of airport operator Aena

Xinhua, January 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Spanish cabinet meeting agreed on Friday the sale of stakes in Aena, the world's biggest airport operator by passenger volume.

The announcement was made by the Spanish Public Works Minister Ana Pastor at the press conference after the cabinet meeting, where the government agreed to sell 28 percent of Aena in an initial public offering.

The company's shares will be listed on Feb. 11, the government pointed out, adding that the state could collect between 1.5 billion euros (1.69 billion U.S. dollars) and 2 billion euros.

Aena operates 46 Spanish airports and has stakes in other airports, such as Colombia, Mexico and London's Luton, dealing with 187 million passengers a year.

Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Soraya Saenz de Santamaria said the sale was part of the government's strategy to improve some sectors' competitiveness. Pastor added that private capital would reinforce the management of Aena. (1 euro = 1.12 U.S. dollars) Enditem
