Angola committed to peace initiatives, efforts: defence chief

Xinhua, January 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Angola would continue to join initiatives and actions of the world community aimed at restoring and keeping peace and stability in Africa and the whole world, said Angolan Defence Minister Joao Lourenco.

"We will continue to join actions that aim to promote and reinforce the understanding and cooperation amongst nations," said the defence chief on Thursday when addressing the new-year greeting ceremony he received from defense attaches accredited to Luanda.

As for internal conflicts in Africa, mainly in the Great Lakes Region, the minister said that there were barriers in the pacification processes in DR Congo, Central African Republic and South Sudan, and he believed major progresses might be recorded with greater engagement of the International community.

He said the Angolan government was worried about the disintegration of families and collapse of an African state instead of being stable, in the case of Libya, as well as the intensification of terrorist actions in the north of Nigeria, with trends to be expanded to the neighboring countries, including Cameroon.

Angola currently chairs the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region in Africa. Endi
