Tourists visiting Turkey increases 5.5 percent in 2014: minister

The number of tourists visiting Turkey in 2014 increased by 5.5 percent when compared with the previous year, Turksh media reported on Thursday.
In an exclusive interview with the state-run Anadolu News Agency, Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Omer Celik said that "the tourist number visited our country has reached to 36,838,900 comparing to 34,910,000 in 2013," adding that "this is a significant increase because it was recorded in spite of a lot of crisis around Turkey."
According to the World Tourism Organisation's ranking of the most visited countries in the world, Turkey is the sixth. "We are in a rapid, stable progress towards fifth in rank," Celik said.
According to the ranking of visits to Turkey by nationality, he said it was unchanged when compared with the previous year as Germany was the first, Russia the second and Great Britain the third.
He said the tourism revenues of the first nine months of 2014 also increased by 8.5 percent when compared with the same period of 2013. Endit
