Security staff at two German airports to strike on Friday

Xinhua, January 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Passengers at Stuttgart and Hamburg airports have to face lengthy delays on Friday, after Germany's Verdi trade union called Thursday on security staff to strike at both airports.

While the warning strike in Stuttgart will last from 3:00 o'clock in the morning to 14 o'clock local time, the security staff in Hamburg will lay down their work from 11 o'clock to 16 o'clock local time, as the union announced on Thursday.

The strike could lead to a lengthy delay in the security checks on Friday morning, said a press release from the Hamburg airport, adding that a majority of the passengers can not pass security checks on time due to limited control capacity.

The background of the warning strike is the current collective bargaining for the security industry in Germany.

As Verdi demands a pay rise of 2.50 euros to 13-15 euros per hour for the security staff at the airport in Stuttgart, security screeners in Hamburg should get 15 euros instead of the previous 14 euros per hour as well as new pay grades. Enditem
