Ghana league sponsor redeems first tranche of sponsorship package

Xinhua, January 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

First Capital Plus Bank has paid the first tranche of sponsorship money for the 2014-2015 Ghana Premier League season on Thursday.

The indigenous bank issued a cheque for 1.1 million cedis (over 340,000 U.S. dollars) to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) at a short ceremony in Accra.

First Capital Plus Bank (FCPB) became the new sponsor of Ghana's Premier League after signing a 5-year sponsorship deal worth 10 million dollars with the GFA in February, last year.

The Vice-President of the GFA, Fred Crentsil, thanked the bank for the package, saying the money would help the development of the 16-club elite league.

"We will ensure that everything is taken care of; then the mileage that they are supposed to have will be had under this particular dispensation," Crentsil said.

The league, which was already halfway, had been without a sponsor since the inception of the 2013-2014 League Season. Endi
