At least 33 people were killed and more than 47 others wounded on Thursday in bomb attacks targeting the security forces and clashes with the Islamic State (IS) militants, security source said.
In Iraq's Anbar province, Iraqi security forces and allied Sunni tribes backed by U.S.-led coalition aircraft clashed with the IS militants and seized al-Khasfa area in west of the town of Haditha, some 200 km northwest of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, a provincial security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. KIEV -- The Ukrainian government has partially withdrawn troops from Donetsk airport after months of bitter fighting with independence-seeking insurgents, the Defense Ministry said Thursday.
"Yesterday, 20 troops of the Ukrainian armed forces left the terminals of the airport because their position were destroyed and exposed to direct fire," the press service of the ministry said in a statement. (Ukraine-Airport)

TRIPOLI -- The security chief of Libya's western city of Sirte was assassinated by unidentified gunmen on Thursday, according to local officials.
Colonel Sanusi Kaabh, along with his driver, was shot by a gang of militants in Sirte's downtown area, a security official who declined to disclose his name said. (Libya-Assassination)

LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan -- Three persons including the attacker were killed and 18 others sustained injuries as a suicide bomber targeted a police convoy in Helmand's provincial capital Lashkar Gah on Thursday, spokesman for provincial government Omar Zawak said.
