Vietnam supports the international community's efforts to combat terrorism in all forms as well as acts of extremist violence, said Pham Thu Hang, vice spokesperson of Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

Hang made the remarks at a regular press briefing held in capital Hanoi while addressing a reporter's inquiry over Vietnam's response on the news that Islamic State (IS) militants kidnapped two Japanese nationals.

The IS group on Tuesday demanded in a video footage 200 million U.S. dollars in ransom in order to release the two Japanese captives.

"Vietnam strongly condemns cruel and inhuman actions targeting civilians. We support the international community's efforts to fight against terrorism on the basis of respect to the Charter of the United Nations, to fundamental principles of international laws on independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of relating countries and ensuring of safety for civilians," Hang told reporters.
