Suicide car bomb in Somali ahead of Turkish president visit

Xinhua, January 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

A suicide car bomb at the gate of a Mogadishu hotel, where a Turkish delegation was having meetings, in the capital of Somali on Thursday killed at least three people, officials from Turkish Foreign Ministry told Xinhua.

There are no casualties among the Turkish delegation, the officials said.

The car bomb exploded when the Turkish delegation was having meetings for the upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Somalia on Friday.

Only one member of the Turkish delegation was slightly wounded due to broken glasses of the hotel, the officials said.

Al-Shabaab militants, which attacked a house of Turkish embassy staff in Mogadishu with a car bomb and killed three people, claimed the responsibility for the attack on Thursday.

Minutes after the attack, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told reporters that an investigation had been launched to reveal whether the attack "directly targeted" the Turkish delegation.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would go ahead with his trip, Davutoglu added. Endit
