Iran's former vice president sentenced on corruption charges: TV

Xinhua, January 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iran's Supreme Court has sentenced former vice president Mohammad Reza Rahimi to five years and three months in prison on corruption charges, Press TV reported on Thursday.

Rahimi, the first vice president under former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was also fined 10 billion rials (about 364,000 U.S. dollars), according to the report.

Rahimi, 66, was also ordered to restitute 28.5 billion rials (some 1.16 million dollars) in allegedly illicit earnings.

The report did not say when the sentence was made.

A preliminary court ruling had handed Rahimi a 15-year sentence, but the Supreme Court commuted the term. Endit
