Ligue 1 side Monaco announced Wednesday to sign a permanent deal with Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva who's impressed during a loan from Benfica.

"Bernardo Silva is one of those talented young players on which AS Monaco wants to build its future," Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev told the club's official website.

According to the principality club, the 20-year-old completed the move for a fee of 15.75 million euros on a contract to keep him at Stade Louis II until June 2019.

Silva, a member of the under-21 national team of Portugal, initially joined the principality club last August on a season- long loan from the Portugal champions, and has been a regular under former Sporting Lisbon coach Leonardo Jardim.

"He has already demonstrated his potential to all our supporters this season and it was important for us to keep him," said Vasilyev. "We now wish that Bernardo continues to develop in the red and white jersey under our high quality staff."

In his 21 appearances this season with Monaco, Silva has scored three goals. Monaco now sit on fifth in Ligue 1 rankings. Endite
