Medical services are being provided to Burundians through a team of U.S. military medical professionals in collaboration with the Burundian army, a press release from the U.S. Embassy in Burundi said here on Wednesday.

According to the press release, the medical services started to be provided from Jan. 21 and will run until Jan. 30 through what has been "Medical Readiness Training Exercises (MEDRETEs)".

The press release said that the medical service is to be carried out in the capital Bujumbura and is "the first in a series of such exercises" planned this year and part of U.S. Army Africa' s routine military-to-military engagement with African partner states.

The U.S. military medical team will also serve duty for up to two weeks in less privileged areas of the east African nation. Local medical teams will also obtain training in the medical sector from the U.S. military medical team.

All of the services provided include medical, surgical and preventive medicine services. Endi
