Xinhua, January 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Flood victims in Mozambique and Malawi are to receive a million U.S. dollars from the Canadian government, the state radio said Wednesday.

The Radio Mozambique reported that, in a Wednesday statement, Canada said that the government will immediately make available up to a million U.S. dollars, in response to the situation in Mozambique and Malawi affected by the calamities.

The statement said that the money will be channelled through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Over the past week, storms and floods have caused dozens of deaths in Mozambique's five central and northern provinces. The total number of people affected is put at over 90,000, and around 30,000 people are currently living in temporary accommodation centres. Endi
