China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closed at 3,223.61 points on Wednesday, up 4.75 percent.

Total turnover: 473.76 billion yuan (77.33 billion U.S. dollars) .

BEIJING -- The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed at 11,372.18 points on Wednesday, up 3.42 percent.

Total turnover: 334.82 billion yuan (54.65 billion U.S. dollars) .

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 2.92 points, or 0.15 percent, to 1,921.23 at the close. Trading volume stood at 296.3 million shares worth 4.25 trillion won (3.92 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Wednesday up 0.31 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 4.38 points to 1,413.58. A total of 30,365 shares worth about 213 million Lao kip (about 26,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 0.73 percent Wednesday with the weighted index up 68.02 points to 9,319.71, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 96.70 billion new Taiwan dollars (3.06 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

SYDNEY -- The mining sector lifted the Australian share market more than 1.6 percent higher on Wednesday' s close, its biggest gain in 2015.

At the official market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 85.7 points, or 1.61 percent, at 5,393.4 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 80.6 points, or 1.52 percent, to 5,367.4 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares ended lower Wednesday on the Bank of Japan's move to cut its inflation outlook for the fiscal 2015 due to plunged oil price, as well as the European Central Bank prepares to vote on further easing measures.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged down 85.82 points, or 0.49 percent, from Tuesday at 17,280.48.

The turnover was about 2,302.9 billion yen (about 19.54 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.12 percent higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 8.85 points to 7461.66. The all-share index went down by 1.44 points, or 0.03 percent, to 4364.69.

Trading volume reached 4.68 billion shares worth 12.68 billion pesos (283.80 million U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks moved up 401.42 points, or 1.68 percent, to close on Wednesday at 24,352.58 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,016.63 and 24, 373.28. Turnover totaled 104.29 billion HK dollars (about 13.46 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 569.12 points on Wednesday, down 3.1 points, or 0.54 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 83.040 million shares worth 1.638 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (76.33 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 92 stocks went up, 127 stocks fell down, while 66 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 84.63 points on Wednesday, down 0.36 points, or 0. 42 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 38.987 million shares worth 477.083 billion Vietnamese dong (22.61 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Wednesday, a decrease of 2.95 percent in volume and 12.4 percent in value against the previous trading session.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 49.18 points, or 0.95 percent, to a level of 5,215.27 on Wednesday.

Some 234,179 transactions were booked, involving 5.21 billion shares worth 6.31 trillion rupiah (502.27 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,770.09, up 19. 98 points or 1.13 percent, and the Emas was at 12,182.11, up 120. 09 points or 0.99 percent.

Turnover increased to 2.16 billion shares valued at 2.45 billion ringgit Malaysia (677.36 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.05 billion shares valued at 2.02 billion ringgit Malaysia ( 559.71 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSEX (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed at 4,783.21 points on Wednesday, down 73.74 points or about 1.52 percent from Tuesday.

Total turnover increased to about 2.82 billion taka (about 36. 14 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday from about 2.47 billion taka (about 31.69 million dollars) on Tuesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 20.44 points, or 0. 61 percent, to close at 3,354.46.

A total of two billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 11 billion Singapore dollars (835 million U.S. dollars).

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's Colombo stock exchange returned to its downward trend, falling by 44.10 points, or 0.60 percent, to close at 7,324.40 on Wednesday.
