PSV ousted from Dutch Cup by Roda

Dutch league leaders PSV Eindhoven were eliminated from the last sixteen of the Dutch Cup, the KNVB Beker, on Tuesday by second division side Roda JC Kerkrade, 3-2 after extra time.

PSV coach Phillip Cocu had rested some of his regular players, like Karim Rekik, Adam Maher, Santiago Arias and goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet, but their replacements did not impress.

Tom Van Hyfte gave the home-team an early lead in Kerkrade, but PSV striker Luuk de Jong equalized. In the 74th minute Roda took the lead again through Edwin Gyasi. Once again it was Luuk de Jong who equalized: 2-2.

Due to the late goal by De Jong extra-time was needed in which Hicham Faik put Roda in front again. He curled in a free-kick and PSV was not able to bounce back a third time. Roda won the encounter 3-2.

Last Saturday Dutch league leaders PSV had started the second half of the Eredivisie season with a 1-0 win at Vitesse. They are four points ahead of number two, reigning champions Ajax.

Roda will now face Excelsior in the quarter-finals of the Dutch Cup next week. SC Cambuur meet Cup holders PEC Zwolle, FC Twente host AZ and FC Groningen play against Vitesse. Endite
