Philippines starts preparing for annual National Games

The Philippine government has started preparing for this year's Palarong Pambansa (National Games) by choosing Tagum City in southern province of Davao del Norte to host the annual event, a senior government official said Tuesday.

The Palarong Pambansa is held in May with hosting duties rotating yearly among the island groups.

Last year, the National Games, an scholastic athletic competition that serves as a means to promote Physical Education and Sports as an integral part of the Basic Education Curriculum, was held in Santa Cruz, Laguna in northern part of the Philippines and competed in over 20 sports events, such as basketball, swimming, archery, softball and baseball, among others.
