IMF lowers S. Africa's 2015 growth forecast

Xinhua, January 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lowered South Africa's growth forecast for 2015 to 2.1 percent, according to an IMF report released Tuesday.

This is a 0.2 percent decrease from the IMF's Oct. 2014 forecast for 2015.

The latest forecast reflects structural constraints on electricity supply, transport infrastructure and labor productivity which would continue to plague the economy in the foreseeable future, said the report.

The IMF also cut the country's 2016 growth forecast to 2.5 percent, down by 0.3 percent.

The 2015 projection for sub-Saharan Africa, meanwhile, was reduced to 4.9 percent for 2015 and 5.2 percent for 2016. Endi
