Tokyo shares open higher on hope of ECB easing

Tokyo shares opened higher Tuesday as sentiment here was lifted by hopes of the possibility of the European Central Bank's announcement of a quantitative easing.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 116.41 points, or 0.68 percent, from Monday to 17,130.70.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 7.91 points, or 0.58 percent, to 1,380. 32. Endi
