The death toll in the bus collision that occurred Sunday along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway has risen to 26 after one more person died at Parirenyatwa Hospital, state broadcaster ZBC reported Monday.

It said the government had also declared the accident a national disaster.

A total of 25 people died while 40 others were injured in the accident Sunday after a government-run ZUPCO bus collided head on with a Pioneer bus, 35 kilometers from the capital Harare along the busy highway.

Police have said preliminary investigations indicate that both bus drives were speeding and the accident ranks as one of the most deadly in the country in recent years. Endi
