Japanese government is considering to extend the Djibouti base's functions, making it the first semi-permanent and a multi-purpose base for the Self-Defense Force (SDF)to act in Africa and Middle East, local media reported Monday.
Japan opened the anti-piracy base in Djibouti, East Africa in June 2011 on a 12-hectare place adjoining Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport and has built a command headquarters, boarding facilities, parking apron there at a cost of 4.7 billion yen (40.07 million U.S. dollars). (Japan-Base)

SINGAPORE -- The chief nuclear negotiator of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said on Monday that he has explained the intentions and purpose of the recent proposal put forward by the DPRK at an unofficial meeting here with former senior officials and experts from the United States.
"We provided detailed information of the intentions and purpose of this proposal," Ri Yong Ho, the DPRK's Six Party Talks representative, told reporters after the two-day meeting in Singapore. (Singpore-DPRK-Nuclear)

SINGAPORE -- The Singapore Armed Forces will further deploy planners to support the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen said on Monday.
Speaking in parliament, Ng said that the planners will be deployed to the Combined Joint Task Force Headquarters and the Combined Air Operations Center, and a site-survey team will prepare for the subsequent deployment of its KC-135 tanker. ( Singapore-ISIS)

YANGON, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese consular working group arrived at Myitgyina, capital of Myanmar's northernmost Kachin state, Monday to carry out consular protection services for Chinese citizens detained for entering Myanmar to conduct logging.
