Iran confirms death of IRGC general in Syrian Golan: TV

Xinhua, January 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) confirmed the killing of one of its generals in an Israeli airstrike on the Golan Heights in Syria that also killed six members of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Press TV reported on Monday.

"A number of fighters and forces of the Islamic resistance (of Hezbollah) along with Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Allahdadi were visiting the region of Quneitra and were attacked by a military helicopter of the Zionist regime," the IRGC said in a statement on Monday.

Allahdadi had travelled to Syria to provide consultation and help the Syrian government and nation counter the terrorists. He also gave "decisive" consultation about ways to stop and thwart the Israeli regime's plots and crimes, said the statement.

It said that the killing of the IRGC general and Hezbollah fighters would strengthen the movement's determination to fight the Israeli regime.

Earlier reports said that an Israeli helicopter on Sunday fired two rockets from the Israel-occupied Golan Heights toward a southern Syrian town, killing six Lebanese Hezbollah fighters, including several senior commanders of the military group.

Also, the leader of Hezbollah, Sheikh Hasan Nasrallah, said that any Israeli aggression on Syrian targets would be considered as "targeting the resistance axis (the allies of Iran, Syria and Hezbollah) and retaliation could happen at any time." Endit
