Vietnamese president says key corruption cases brought to justice in 2014

Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang said here on Monday that the country has managed to promptly bring many key corruption cases which drew great attention from local public to justice.

Sang made the remark at a conference held Monday in Hanoi on implementing tasks of the justice sector in 2015, reported the website of Vietnamese government.

Typical corruption cases which were handled in 2014 included that of Duong Chi Dung, former chairman of the Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) with charges of embezzlement and intentionally violating state regulations on economic management that caused severe losses, and Nguyen Duc Kien, a banking tycoon with charges of fraudulent appropriation of property, intentionally violating state regulations on economic management causing serious consequences, tax evasion and illegal business among others.

In a report delivered at the conference, Bui Ngoc Hoa, deputy chief judge of the Supreme People's Court of Vietnam, said in 2014, the sector had handled over 385,000 cases of all kinds, some 20, 000 cases higher than that of 2013. Endi
