"American Sniper" wins weekly box office

"American Sniper", a film with six nominations for the 87th Academy Awards, won the weekly box office with an estimated 90.2 million U.S. dollars in ticket sales on its first weekend of wide release.

The Clint Eastwood-directed movie opened at 3,555 locations, adding 3,551 more than last week. The film earned an "A+" ranking from first-night movie-goers and 73 percent positive critics from RottenTomatoes.com.

The R-rated comedy "The Wedding Ringer" was in the second place, with 21 million dollars in sales through Sunday.

"Paddington" was just behind, with 19.3 million dollars in estimated three-day sales. Last weekend's number one, "Taken 3" was on track for a 14.1 million, and "Selma" was in the fifth place, with an estimated 4 million dollars. Endi
