British, German FMs fly to Mostar instead of Sarajevo due to heavy fog

Xinhua, January 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

British and German foreign ministers had to fly to and land in Mostar on Friday instead of Sarajevo due to heavy fog, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of Great Britain Philip Hammond and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, flew in and landed in Mostar, some 120 kilometers away from Sarajevo.

Their planned meeting with BiH officials were forced to delay as they travelled to Sarajevo by car, and some schedules changed, local media reported.

Meanwhile, flights from Belgrade, Istanbul and Amsterdam to Sarajevo were canceled at the Sarajevo International Airport. Most of departures from the airport were also canceled.

Sarajevo has been enveloped in heavy fog since Thursday, with flights canceled. Heavy fog is not uncommon in winter in Sarajevo, which lies in a basin surrounded by mountains. Enditem
