Kazakhstan hopes to host summit on Ukraine crisis later this month

Xinhua, January 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

A summit of leaders of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France over the Ukraine crisis may be held in Astana, the Kazakh capital, later this month, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev's press service said in a statement Thursday.

The exact date of the summit is not announced.

There was a previous plan to hold a meeting of leaders of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France in Astana on Jan. 15, but the plan fell through because of unpreparedness.

Thursday's statement issued by the press service said President Nazarbayev had talked to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko by phone for the summit, along with discussions of other issues including the current situation in Ukraine and bilateral cooperation.

President Poroshenko has confirmed his commitment to the Summit in Astana, according to the statement. Endite
