According to preliminary results, more than 970,000 automobiles were produced in Slovakia in 2014, confirmed president of the Slovak Automotive Industry Association Jaroslav Holecek at a press conference on Thursday.

"This means that the sector considerably exceeded the expectations of the beginning of the year and confirmed its stable and strong position in the Slovak economy," pointed out Holecek.

Holecek added that this position has also been confirmed over the years by a more than 43 percent share of total industrial production.

Slovakia has maintained its world supremacy in terms of the number of cars produced per thousand inhabitants over the past couple of years. In 2014, the figure stood at 179 vehicles per thousand people, which exceeded the results of other countries by dozens of cars. Endit
