Participants at an ongoing round of Libyan political discussions have showed "a clear sense of determination" to ensure its success, the UN Office in Geneva (UNOG) said in a statement on Thursday.

The new round of Libyan political discussions by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) continued on Thursday at the UNOG. The discussions, which kicked off on Wednesday, seek to end Libya's deepening political and security crisis.

"They (participants) look forward for more discussions today," according to a statement by the UN.

The UNSMIL said that discussions during the first session on Wednesday were constructive and were conducted in a positive atmosphere.

Wednesday's discussion is the second round of talks hosted by the UNSMIL, with an aim to reach a political settlement to form a unity government acceptable for all Libyans, and stop fighting within armed groups.

The UNSMIL viewed this new round of dialogue as providing a key opportunity for Libyan parties to engage in a political process that might lead to breaking the political deadlock underlying the crisis that has overtaken the country.

The meeting is expected to last until Friday. Attendees include representatives from the Libya's political, social, economic, and civil society, as well as those from municipalities, militia groups, and tribal leaders. Endit
