General Ravelonarivo Jean was appointed Madagascar's prime minister, the general secretary of the presidency Ralala Roger said late Wednesday, two days after Prime Minister Kolo Roger resigned with his government.

The prime minister was appointed following article 54 of Madagascar's Constitution stipulating "the Prime minister is appointed by the president of Republic in a list proposed by political party having the majority in the parliament," Ralala Roger said in reading a presidential decree.

Former ministers will ensure daily tasks of the government until the appointment of new government members, he said.

On Tuesday, parliament members proposed 14 names as candidates for the prime minister to President Hery Rajaonarimampianina. Endite
