Flights canceled amid heavy fog in Sarajevo

Xinhua, January 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Several flights were canceled due to heavy polluted fog in Sarajevo on Wednesday while health experts urged people to stay inside rooms.

Flights from Sarajevo to Zagreb and Vienna were canceled at Sarajevo International Airport, while the evening flight to Istanbul was also canceled due to dense fog.

Meanwhile, health experts from ministry of space planning and environment of Canton Sarajevo urged residents to stay at home, especially in morning and evening hours.

Polluted fog can cause serious health problems, with children, the elders and pregnant women the most vulnerable.

Heavy fog is not uncommon in Sarajevo, which lies in a basin surrounded by mountains. Meanwhile, many families in the city burned woods and coal to heat up their houses in winter, often causing pollution. Enditem
