Albania to invest 50 mln dollars to improve energy distribution

Xinhua, January 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Albania's energy distribution company said on Wednesday that it would invest over 50 million U.S. dollars this year to improve its distribution network.

"We will start an investment plan of over 50 million U.S. dollars aiming at the improvement of the distribution network, the quality of supply and reduction of technical losses," said Adrian Cela, administrator of Albanian Energy Distribution Network Operator (OSHEE).

Cela said that his company, in cooperation with the state police and under the support of the government, has managed to reduce the pace of money losing trend in the energy sector.

"Collection of total monthly bill has reached at 87 percent, an increase of 10 percent compared to the previous year. The combating of theft of energy has been translated into the reduction of the level of losses in the increase of collection," Cela said.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the government will introduce new technology in the energy system so that all energy used will be measured correctly and people do not have to pay for energy they have not used. Enditem
