Qatar transfers 25 million USD to PNA for Gaza reconstruction

Xinhua, January 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Qatar transferred on Wednesday 25 million U.S. dollars to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) for reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, a senior official in the Palestinian unity government said.

Mohamed Mustafa, the deputy prime minister of the unity government, said in an emailed press statement that "the 25 million dollars will be used for resolving the housing problems for Gaza Strip populations."

"There are 3,000 families in the Gaza Strip who have no house and live in shelters. Each family will be paid 1,500 dollars for renting a house or apartment for six months," said Mustafa.

A total of 6 million dollars of the Qatari donation "will be for renovating the partially destroyed constructions and another one million dollars will be for removing the debris of the completely destroyed houses," Mustafa said.

He added that the rest of the Qatari donation will be for buying fuels for operating the Gaza power station and for fixing the destroyed industrial and commercial factories and companies.

Meanwhile, Iraq also donated 28 million dollars which was transferred to the budget of the PNA for reconstructing the Gaza Strip, Musataf said.

In July 8, Israel waged a large-scale military operation on the Gaza Strip. The offensive ended after Egypt brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza militants, but large destruction was left in housing and infrastructure. Endit
