Spanish PM visits Athens to show support for conservative counterpart before Greek election

Xinhua, January 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Greece and Spain need stability, not uncertainty while exiting the financial crisis, visiting Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said here on Wednesday in a message of support to his fellow conservative Greek counterpart ahead of the Jan. 25 Greek national polls.

"Mr. Samaras is a true leader," Rajoy said during joint statements to the press following talks with the Greek Prime Minister, adding that he has been a "witness" of Samaras' "dynamic efforts" to pull Greece out of crisis.

"Today we need stability and certainty rather than instability and we need Europe," he said, stressing that the resolution to the crisis will emerge from within Europe and that Spain and Greece need to continue on the reform path to achieve further economic growth.

On his part, Samaras thanked the Spanish people and Rajoy personally for their solidarity towards Greece. Endit
