Singapore restaurant asked to conduct pest control amid dead rat fear

Xinhua, January 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

A hotpot restaurant in Singapore, which was pictured with a dead rat in one of its dishes, was ordered to carry out "intensive pest control treatment" by Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA), local media reported on Wednesday.

The restaurant, located at the Marina Square, has been requested to suspend business last week after consumers said they have found a dead rat when dining in the buffet hotpot diner.

After investigation, NEA said they found dried rat droppings on the floor of the storeroom and on a false ceiling in the kitchen, which could be possible points through which rats can gain access into the kitchen, the Strait Times reported.

NEA has thereafter ordered the restaurant to carry out pest control treatment and seal up potential entry points for rats, and ensure that proper housekeeping, food storage and waste management practices are followed, according to the Channel NewsAsia.

NEA said it will continue to monitor the pest control treatment and hygiene practices at the restaurant. Endi
