Tokyo stocks open lower on Wall St. fall, firmer yen

Tokyo stocks opened lower early Wednesday, dragged down by overnight losses on Wall Street and the yen's appreciation.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average slipped 94.40 points, or 0.55 percent, from Tuesday to 16,993.31.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange moved down 6.33 points, or 0.46 percent, to 1, 368.36.

Major decliners included nonferrous metal, energy and brokerage issues. Endi
