Australian stocks open lower

The Australian share market opened lower on Wednesday with resources stocks weighing down the market.

At the official market open, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 18.1 points, or 0.33 percent, at 5386.6 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index lost 17.7 points, or 0.33 percent, to 5364.4 points.

Materials lost 1.37 percent as a sector. BHP Billiton retreated 1.32 percent, Rio Tinto lost 1.79 percent, Fortescue Metals fell 4. 31 percent and Newcrest gave up 2.55 percent.

Consumer staples shed 0.37 percent as a sector. Woolworths slipped 0.67 percent while Wesfarmers lost 0.16 percent.

Financial dropped 0.15 percent as a sector. ANZ lost 0.19 percent, the Commonwealth Bank fell 0.3 percent, National Australia Bank shed 0.21 percent while Westpac lost 0.3 percent.

Energy stocks were mixed losing 0.04 percent. Santos was up 2. 77 percent, Woodside Petroleum gave up 0.84 percent, Oil Search was up 0.28 percent, while Beach Energy added 0.75 percent.

Meanwhile, Telstra was flat and Qantas shed 0.82 percent. Endi
