PSG, Bastia reach French League Cup semis, St-Etiene ousted

Xinhua, January 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Defending champions Paris Saint- Germain and Bastia secured their berths to the Coupe de la Ligue semifinals with victories on Tuesday.

Les Parisiens nipped a 1-0 win over the third-placed Saint- Etienne in Ligue 1, while the Corsican beat the nine-man Rennes 3- 1.

PSG made the 72-minute breakthrough with a little controversy as Zlatan Ibrahimovic chest a Lucas Moura cross towards the goal before Stephane Ruffier parried it out and a touch from the Swede sent it wide.

S. Ennjimi ruled it in as the referee though it had definitely crossed the line.

In the other quarterfinal on Tuesday, Bastia fell behind to Rennes defender Sylvain Armand's 12th-minute opener, but Sebastien Squillaci equalized in the 47th minute.

Romain Danze committed an own-gal and substitute Djibril Cisse completed the scoring at 90.

Rennes were reduced to nine men after having both Anders Konradsen (65') and debutante Ermir Lenjani (76') sent off.

It has been the fifth victory for Ghislain Printant's side in their previous six outings.

The remaining two spots of French League Cup semifinals are open to clinch as Monaco host Guingamp and Nantes visit Lille on Wednesday. Endite
