Algeria, Senegal vow to revive bilateral cooperation

Visiting President of Senegal Macky Sall said here on Tuesday that his country and Algeria agreed to revive their economic relations, in particular through improving the legal framework for their cooperation.

Macky Sall held talks with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and told reporters that "we stressed the will to revive economic, trade and investment relations."

"Algeria and Senegal have had no problem or dispute so far, and our relationship just need an impetus," he said.

President Sall further indicated that the governments of Algeria and Senegal "will work to strengthen the legal framework of their cooperation to ensure that all constraints are lifted to boost investment as well as trade and economic exchanges."

"We have also discussed the regional situation and crisis hitting Africa, including the situation in Mali," he said, adding "President Bouteflika is particularly familiar with the situation in Mali and Libya, and his accurate analysis of the situation provided me a broader dimension on how to see the two conflicts."

Senegalese President on Monday started a four-day visit to Algeria at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika to boost bilateral partnership and discussing the situation in the African Sahel are on the agenda.

On Monday, Macky Sall evoked potential investment opportunities in his country as part of the development program of 2014-2018, as he invited Algerian business leaders both in public and private sectors to invest in Senegal, in the sectors of housing, construction, transport, education and health.
