The historic Spanish city of Toledo on Tuesday signed an agreement with the organization "Chinese Friendly' in order to adapt to and strengthen its appeal to Chinese tourists.
Toledo, which is around an hour's drive south of the Spanish capital of Madrid, was briefly the Spanish capital in the 16th century, and the city's range of historic buildings and cultural offerings saw it declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986.
The wealth of interesting sites and its ease of access from Madrid has made the city a key tourist destination for visitors to Spain.
As part of this agreement, employees in the tourist sector will receive special courses about the special needs and tastes of Chinese tourists, with the aim of making them feel more welcome.
This can be done by employing greater number of Chinese speakers in hotels and restaurants, offering food Chinese people like and also ensuring signs and information in Chinese available in the city.
Recent years have seen an important expansion in the number of Chinese visitors to Spain, and on his recent visit to China, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said his country would take further steps in issues such as emitting visas to ensure travel between the two nations becomes ever easier.
