Copenhagen Airport had a banner year in 2014 with a record number of over 25 million passengers passing through its terminals, it was reported Tuesday.
The number of travelers at Copenhagen Airport in 2014 rose 6.5 percent year-on-year to 25.6 million, which was the fourth consecutive year of passenger records, the airport said in a statement.
International traffic at the airport was up by 6.8 percent for the full year, while domestic traffic rose 2.3 percent.
The airport also witnessed the highest growth rate of 12.6 percent in the number of passengers transferring to other flights at Copenhagen.
"International traffic was the main growth driver throughout the year, so we have continued to strengthen our position as an international hub," said Thomas Woldbye, chief executive officer of the airport.
He said the traffic on its 27 intercontinental routes grew by a total of 8.0 percent in 2014.
The top destination in 2014 was London with more than 1.9 million passengers traveling to and from the city, up 9.6 percent from 1.73 million in 2013. Stockholm was the second most popular destination with 1.45 million passengers, followed by Oslo with 1.41 million passengers.
In July 2014, the airport announced that it would invest 250 million Danish kroner (45.6 million U.S. dollars) in an expansion program to create more room for passengers and carriers.
According to the plan, Finger C in the airport's Terminal 3 will be expanded by an extra 2,900 square meters in a bid to improve intercontinental travel services.
Copenhagen Airport is currently the busiest airport in Scandinavia. Endit
