Germany, Turkey to begin regular gov't consultations

Xinhua, January 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

German and Turkish leaders announced Monday to begin regular bilateral government consultations.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu agreed to the format during a visit by Davutoglu. Government members of both countries will meet once a year to discuss a wide range of bilateral and international issues.

The German-Turkish government consultations will be held alternately at ministerial and head of government level. Merkel is scheduled to travel with members of her cabinet to Ankara in 2016 for the first round of the bilateral talks.

Davutoglu has paid his first visit to Berlin on Monday since taking up the post of prime minister. Integration policies regarding people of Turkish origin who are living in Germany, as well as united strategies in the fight against terrorism formed the focus of his talks with Merkel, according to a statement of the German government.
