Ford F-150 awarded Truck of Year, Volkswagen Golf named Car of Year

Xinhua, January 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Ford F-150 beat the Chevrolet Colorado and the Lincoln MKC to win North American Truck of the Year, the organizer of the North American International Auto Show announced on Monday.

The Ford F-150 serves the customers in a way that has never been served before, said Joseph Heinrichs, executive vice president and president of the Americas for Ford Motor Company.

The F-150 accounts for 20 percent of Ford's volume in the United States, Heinrichs added.

The Volkswagen Golf was awarded the North American Car of the Year by winning against the Ford Mustang and Hyundai Genesis.

"The Golf is a worldwide car," and is quite popular among young people who live in the cities and prefer compact cars, Michael Horn, president and CEO of Volkswagen of America, told Xinhua following the announcement of the award in the opening ceremony of the auto show.

The two awards were selected by a panel of some 60 independent journalists from multiple outlets based on such factors as innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for money from vehicles that must be "all new" or "substantially changed," according to the organizers.

The North American International Auto Show that takes up more than 722,500 square feet (67,122 square meters) in Detroit's Cobo Center expects to receive 5,000 journalists from more than 60 countries, with 50 vehicle debuts and more than 500 vehicles on display. Endi
