Xinhua, January 12, 2015 Adjust font size:
Sustainable development, economical Games and athletes-centered Games are the directives in Beijing's bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Beijing illustrates three concepts in bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, which consist of running athletes-centered Games, ensuring sustainable development and hosting economical Games, according to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games candidature file released Monday.
In running athletes-centerd Games, convenience for the athletes is the primary criterion for Beijing 2022.
Games-standard services will be provided in areas including training, competition, transport, accommodation, food and beverage, healthcare and cultural exchange, in order to assist athletes to achieve their best performances and fulfil their dreams.
Athletes of the Paralympic Winter Games will be provided with barrier-free facilities and services according to the standards of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
The Organizing Committee will attach importance to the services to the Olympic Family, the media, the broadcasters, the spectators, the sponsors and all other client groups.
To ensure sustainable development, Beijing views that the Olympic Winter Games are not only a significant international sports event, but also a valuable opportunity to speed up the development of the cities, the region and even the country.
The Chinese national government and the local governments in Beijing and Zhangjiakou have included Beijing 2022 in the National Strategy of Integrated and Coordinated Development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region (National Strategy), and the long-term regional development plans, thereby facilitating the bidding and preparation for the Olympic Winter Games, the improvement of urban ecological environments and the close integration of economic development and social advancement.
City development will provide strong backing for the hosting of the Olympic Winter Games, which will in return expedite the city development, thus establishing a model of mutual benefit and win-win development of the Olympic Movement and the host city.
In response to the Olympic Agenda 2020, Beijing stresses an economical Games. The Bid Committee has adhered to the principles of being scientific, meticulous, prudent and feasible in the budgeting for the Games.
Emphases will be placed on integrating the Games with regional development strategy, conducting market-based fund raising, improving internal management system, and exercising strict cost control over the Games operations.
Out of the 12 competition and non-competition venues in Beijing Zone, 11 are existing venues inherited from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. New venues will be built in line with the requirements of the Olympic Winter Games competitions, and temporary facilities and combination of permanent and temporary venues will be used wherever possible. In addition, the needs for barrier-free facilities will be considered.
Government and social resources will be mobilized to support the development and construction of venues, as well as the post-Games use of the Games legacies. Endi
