South Korean President Park Geun-hye urged the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Monday to respond to Seoul's dialogue offer "without any hesitation."

The two Koreas should open a door of unification together by discussing various issues, including the "fundamental resolution" of Korean families separated during the 1950-53 Korean War, Park said in her New Year's press conference. (South Korea-DPRK- Dialogue)

SEOUL -- Two people were dead, with four others injured, in a nitrogen gas leak incident of LG Display, South Korea leading display panel maker, Yonhap News Agency reported Monday.

The nitrogen gas was leaked at about 12:50 p.m. in a display panel plant owned LG Display. The factory is located in Paju, some 40 km northwest of capital Seoul. (South Korea-Gas Leak)

MANILA -- A man and a child were killed while 15 others were injured in an explosion Monday near an elementary school in central Philippine province of Capiz, an official said.

Espridion Pelaez, a spokesman of Capiz provincial disaster risk reduction and management office, said initial reports showed the explosion occurred around 12 noon near the Lantangan Elementary School in Pontevedra town. (Philippines-Explosion)

JAKARTA -- The flight data recorder of the AirAsia Flight QZ8501 retrieved Monday was in good condition and was ready to be opened for analysis, Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) said.

KNKT Chairman Tatang Kurniadi told a press conference in Pangkalan Bun, a town on Borneo island's central Kalimantan province closest to the crash site, that the black box recovered by Indonesian divers Monday morning would be sent immediately to the lab in Jakarta for analysis by a Boeing aircraft.
