Opposition party candidate leads in Croatian presidential run-off

Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, candidate from Croatia's largest opposition party Croatian Democratic Union leads in the presidential run-off starting on Sunday, the exit polls showed.

The polls, conducted by Ipsos Plus Agency, showed Kitarovic was supported by 51.4 percent voters while her opponent, incumbent president Ivo Josipovic, got 48.6 percent supporters, the RTL television reported.

In the neck-and-neck first round on Dec. 28, 2014, Josipovic won 38.46 percent of the vote while Kitarovic got 37.22 percent.

Croatian State Electoral Commission will publish first results at 8 p.m. local time (1900 GMT).

Kitarovic, 46, Former Croatian Foreign Minister, was supported by about eight parties while Josipovic, 57, a former law professor and composer, was supported by 19 parties.

The Croatian president is elected every five years and can serve no more than two consecutive terms. Josipovic, the third president of the country, took office in 2010. Endit
