Iran condemns deadly bombings in Lebanon's Tripoli

Xinhua, January 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iran on Sunday condemned the latest bomb attack in the suburbs of the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, which killed nine people and wounded dozens, according to the Foreign Ministry.

The ministry expressed condolences to the Lebanese government and the bereaved families of the victims, saying those behind the sinister act had actually targeted unity, solidarity and stability of Lebanon.

The vigilant Lebanese leaders and political parties would foil the plots of their enemies by fostering a further unity and a national dialogue, the ministry added.

At least nine people were killed and 37 others wounded on Saturday in a twin suicide bombing in the Alawite neighborhood of the northern Lebanese port city of Tripoli. The fundamentalist group al-Nusra Front has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The group said that the attacks against a coffee shop were in revenge against the Sunnis in Syria and Lebanon. Over the past few years, Tripoli's Alawite Jabal Mohsen neighborhood has been locked in violent clashes with the Sunni neighborhood of Bab el-Tebbaneh. Endit
