Three members of the Islamic State (IS) terror group were killed Saturday in the country's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, the state news agency SANA and pro-government Sham FM radio reported.
The three IS fighters were attacked by the so-called Popular Resistance group, a pro-government militia formed recently in that oil-rich province and having carried out several ambushes against the IS militants.
The Popular Resistance attacked an IS vehicle at the outskirt of al-Mayadeen city in the countryside of Deir al-Zour on Saturday, capturing a group of the IS fighters, said SANA, spelling no further details.
Meanwhile, Sham FM said the pro-government fighters actually killed three IS members who were in the targeted vehicle.
The Islamic State group has captured large swathes of Deir al-Zour, largely focusing its attacks against the oil and gas plants.
Deir al-Zour has a strategic importance to the IS due to its location on the borders with Iraq. Endit
