Lack of demand triggers Finnair's cutbacks in flights to Russia
Xinhua, January 10, 2015 Adjust font size:
The devaluation of the Russian ruble is affecting scheduled air connections, as lack of demand has forced Finnair to temporarily suspend flights to three Russian cities, the airline said on Friday.
During the period between early February and late April, Finnair will not be flying flights to Kazan, Samara and Nizhny Novgorod. The Finnish national carrier introduced flights to the three Russian cities last June.
The three weekly return flights were planned to continue throughout the winter, but Finnair is now seeing the demand so low that flights are not commercially viable.
Finnair's press desk confirmed to Xinhua that the airline was planning to resume the suspended routes in the summer season beginning on April 22, 2015.
Besides Moscow and St. Petersburg, Finnair will continue flying to Yekaterinburg in the Ural mountains area. Endit
