Myanmar, Australia to promote bilateral air services

Xinhua, January 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Myanmar and Australia will promote bilateral air services aimed at upgrading civil aviation business amid growing tourist arrivals in the country year-on-year, official media reported Friday.

Myanmar delegation led by U Win Swe Tun, director-general of the Department of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transport and the Australian delegation headed by Samuel Lucas, director of the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development, had discussions on the existing Air Services Agreement between the two countries, said the Global New Light of Myanmar.

Both sides agreed on an initial final draft of new Air Services Agreement, and decided to take measures for the formal signing of the agreement.

The two sides further agreed on route rights, traffic rights and operational rights for airlines of both countries.

The existing Air Services Agreement between Myanmar and Australia was signed in 1976.

Meanwhile, the number of domestic private airlines in operation in Myanmar reaches eight, while that of foreign airlines flying to the country remains at 24. Endi
