Rooney wins the England team's player of year award

Xinhua, January 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

England captain Wayne Rooney has been voted England team's player of the year for 2014 for scoring eight goals in 13 international appearances in 2014.

Though the Manchester United striker failed to inspire England to success at the World Cup, Rooney still took 27 per cent of the votes from an online poll of supporters club members.

"I'm both very happy and proud to be named the England fans' player of the year," Rooney said after winning the award for the third time.

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck ranked after Rooney with 11 percent of the votes, and Raheem Sterling was third.

West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino was named England's Under-21 player of the year. Endi
