French community in Czech holds rally to mourn Paris shooting victims

The French community in the Czech Republic organized a rally outside the French embassy in Prague on Thursday evening to mourn the victims of the terrorist attack on the Paris satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

People lit candles and put flowers and pencils, a symbol of rejecting the Paris terrorist attack, to show their solidarity with the victims and support to freedom of speech.

Czech Young Social Democrats also held a march against extremism and for the freedom of speech in Prague on Thursday, the march ended outside the French embassy.

Another gathering outside the French embassy in Prague is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

In reaction to the terrorist attack, some towns halls and offices in Czech have lowered their flags at half mast. Prague Mayor Adriana Krnacova expressed compassion with the families of the victims in a letter to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. Endit
