Maltese journalists condemn Charlie Hebdo magazine attack

The representatives from news organizations in Malta gathered in Valletta on Thursday afternoon to condemn Wednesday's terrorist attack at the offices of the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris.

The journalists held "Je Suis Charlie"(I am Charlie) placards and read a statement to condemn the attack.

They expressed that they were saddened by this unprecedented attack on the media and the values of liberty it represents, and presented their sincere condolences to these colleagues' as well as other innocent people killed in this incident and their families.

"We also extend our solidarity to the French people," they said, adding "As members of the media, we affirm that the much cherished right of freedom of expression, has to live on without fear of consequence."

According to earlier reports, a police source confirmed on Thursday the two suspects of the Charlie Hebdo shooting were located in the Picardie municipality of Villers-Cotterets.

Twelve people, including two policemen, were killed on Wednesday and 11 others were wounded after two masked and armed men opened fire on the satirical magazine staff during an editorial meeting. Endit
